History

The company history in detail

In 1913 our company was founded. Here a small insight into the history. With us the “brush making” has a long and good tradition.

The Beginnings in Manual Work

In the year 1913 Paul Kullen and Wilhelm Epp found the Württemberg Brush Factory in Reutlingen. At first hand-made brushes for cleaning and industry are produced. Already in the 1920s begins the specialization in machine- and industrial brushes. 1930 starts the production of spiral brushes – a milestone with own patent.

Innovation and Growth Despite War Times

The company develops further patents and expands with a branch operation in Bavaria. During the Second World War the production is changed to war-important goods. After 1945 begins the rebuilding under difficult conditions, with focus on technical brushes and machines.

Technification and Professionalization

The company becomes a limited partnership and develops first washing plants for the German Federal Railway. New machines like the electro-dynamic balancing machine come into use. The EDP makes its entry, and the assortment grows to over 12,000 tool brush variants.

Merger and International Orientation

Kullen & Co. KG merges with Mez & Co. to Kullen GmbH & Co. KG. The company becomes a pioneer in the use of EDP and takes part in international fairs. The product range grows to over 55,000 types, and the sales activities are supported through targeted marketing.

Globalization and Product Variety

Dieter Kullen takes over the management. The company expands to England and China, invests in modern production plants and develops over 130,000 brush variants. The turnover doubles, and Kullen & Mez becomes KULLEN GmbH & Co. KG with new appearance.

Digitalization and Creative Brand Management

KULLEN founds subsidiaries in Czechia and China, introduces SAP and develops online catalogues. The advertising campaign “Brush heads” wins several prizes. New markets are opened through sales offices in Shanghai, and the brand becomes digitally and internationally visible.

Integration into the KOTI Group and New Perspectives

The Kullen family sells the company to the KOTI Group. The KULLEN-KOTI GmbH arises. With new logo, new management and a modern company headquarters in Reutlingen begins a new era. The closeness between administration and production strengthens efficiency and innovative power.
